Universal Transducer

When involved in fitting retrofit on-board electronic equipment to vehicles, a problem arises in that the correct transducer is not always available in stock. The Hunter universal tranducer, supplied with end fitting kit, overcomes this problem. It can be used when speedo or gearbox fitting of custom-made transducers is not possible. With one crimping tool the whole job can be completed with speedo cable in situ by semi-skilled labour. The transducer will accommodate both commonly used size inner drive cables and the different size outer cables.

Benefits: Save valuable labour time. Cut down on stock inventory. Able to give instant service. Self lubricated cable entry clamped and sealed against water ingress. Lightweight, no supporting brackets required

PLEASE NOTE: THE FITTING OF THE UNIVERSAL TRANSDUCER CAN ONLY BE INSTALLED CORRECTLY USING OUR CP101 CRIMPING PLIERS, SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THIS PURPOSE. USE OF OTHER CRIMPING TOOLS WILL INEVITABLY MEAN THAT AN UNSATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE WILL BE ACHIEVED.

Sensor Installation

Universal Transducer only

The Hunter universal transducer is designed to operate in-line with commonly used automotive speedo cables. The full range of custom made transducers do not require the cutting of the speedo cable, they simply fit directly into the speedo cable drive.

1 Select suitable position on speedo cable in engine bay. Cut through both inner and outer cables using a fine tooth hacksaw (32 teeth/inch is recommended).
2 Cut back outer cable 15mm from the cut ends, leaving inner cable showing. Ensure that inner cable is not withdrawn from its location at speedo head and gear, otherwise it could be cut too short.
3 Slide nut (1) and sleeve (2) over the outer cable away from the cut ends.
4 Slide the drive pin (3) over the inner cable.
5 Crimp unit on to inner speedo cable using the small crimping head on the crimping pliers
6 Slide sleeve (2) forward until it sits 2mm away from the outer cable. Crimp on to outer cable using large slot on pliers.

It is essential when crimping the ferrule to the outer cable that there is a space between the rear face of the brass drive pin and the cut end of the outer cable.

NOTE: Any rubbing of the rear face of the adaptor and the cut end of the outer cable will cause speedo flickering and eventually inner cable failure.
