The CAN Detector is now discontinued as our new range of CAN Bus interfaces now feature built-in diagnostic LEDs to indicate CAN Bus status.
The CAN detector is designed to identify vehicle wiring carrying CAN data messages.
To use, make sure that the vehicle ignition is switched ON. Press the ON/OFF button to switch on the unit. It will briefly light the Green LED and then the Red LED to show that it is switched on and working correctly.
When probing a pair of wires it is necessary to probe each wire with each probe. For example if you are testing a twisted pair of wires - one yellow/black and one yellow/brown - you would probe the yellow/black wire with the CAN High probe and the yellow/brown wire with the CAN Low probe. Then you would probe the yellow/black wire with the CAN Low probe and the yellow/brown wire with the CAN High probe.
When the unit detects CAN data it will light the Green LED. Make a note of which wire colours correspond to CAN High and CAN Low.
